"Submit Your Questions for ArenaNet's GW Retrospective Panel... "
I'll C+P Regina
Quote:
This year, members of the ArenaNet development team will be appearing at a panel at the Penny Arcade Expo, which will take a look at the past three years of Guild Wars. We know that not everyone will have the opportunity to be at PAX to ask questions in-person, so this is your chance.
The team will review the submitted questions and select the most fun and interesting ones to answer at the panel. The first portion of the panel will be devoted to answering questions solicited from the community, before launching into a Q&A session with the panel audience.
Just as a reminder: the team will not be answering questions about GW2, so please keep your questions focused on GW1.
Please post on this thread with your questions.
|
What this thread is for:
Post your questions, and I'll post them (if they are applicable to the rules that she set) on GWO for you. This is good if:
-You don't visit GWO and don't want to because you don't like it (which is okay).
-You are banned at GWO.
-You want to be heard because this wasn't posted here so far.
What this thread isn't for:
-Attacking Regina in any way. If you even vaguely hint it, I won't post your shit at all.
-Talking about why it wasn't posted here, that's unimportant for this thread.
-Attacking the CR in any way.
-Attacking ArenaNet in any way, this includes in your question.
-Asking GW2 questions or complaining about GW2.
-Arguing about fansites.
-Posting anything that isn't a question relevant to the topic at hand.
All posts not relevant to the topic will be reported and handled by the mods. Don't even try it.
Annnnd, go.
This is your chance to be heard, so ask whatever you want! Why a skill is the way it is, how something was made, etc. Ask whatever, and I'll do my best to pass that along. Don't worry about duplicate questions, I'll sort that out.

What was the main goal of Guild Wars and do you all feel that it has been meet or surpased?

Thanks DarkNecrid,
I am sure arena net is making money, with 5 million copies sold, and lots of players with more then 10 character slots. Some even have 42, so I am going to base on that and ask you the following question.
Is arena net planning on donating to any charity? Your players seem to be conscious of planning events and raising awareness, for instant, The successful Pink Day in LA and the recently announced Green Day in LA.
If you don't have any plan when this question is ask, will you at least consider making a charitable something to a cause you all feel is deserving?
Suggestion of how you can do this:
Example 1, during xx months until xx months xx%of all in game store sale will be contributed to xx charity.
Example 2 (this may look like its about guild wars 2 but its not): pre-order guild wars 2 thru guild wars in game store, without getting the box hence encouraging players to not buy unnecessary paper products and arena net will donate xx% of said sale to xx charity.
Sincerely Pumpkin Pie
Question 2: This is a bit far fetch but it would make Guild Wars's server over loaded if you managed to pull it off.
Will arena net ever invite a famous person once in a while to appear in Guild Wars the game itself, maybe during festivals and special function and let the players meet up and have talk session and then ends with a special elite mission run? xx percents from the extra/increase sales from inviting said Celebrity will be donated charity of your choice.
Example: Buy guild wars now and get to play with celebrity XX on 4th of July or xx date. Store selling guild wars game will have to carry this poster as a promotion measure and maybe show said celebrity in some guild wars outfit.

Q: Why did you decide to make PvE 'harder' by giving them rediculous monster only skills/buff their damage by shitloads instead of giving them better skillbars that synergize well with the other monsters in their mob ? (Some EOTN mobs are perfect examples of this*charr, mandragors, ..*)
Thanks for doing this DarkNecrid.

Ok, here goes my question:
Guys, what do you think about GW community in general? To be a bit more specific I want to ask if you feel like community is affeccting GW in an unexpected way?

Would ArenaNet consider another expansion for Guild Wars?

I was just wondering why the other realms of the Gods have not found their way into the game. I am sure this would be something most of the players would love, and indeed many like myself have been waiting for for 3 years. Anyways, the storylines and mythology in Guild Wars are fun and interesting, and I think fully exploring the current games' culture would be a great way to keep interest until Guild Wars 2. The bonus mission pack was a great example of this. Thanks!

My Question:
Being a player since the Prophecies beta, I find myself growing a bit tired with the current content - not because it's not good, but because I've done almost everything PvE there is to do aside from some titles. Are there any plans for any upcoming content updates (not related to special events) to keep players like me online?

I think this is crossposted from the thread which this topic was brought up, but to make it official:
The 'Ursan Blessing' skill has been the source of some controversy among the PvE section of the Guild Wars community. Some of the discussion has been over whether the skill was "intended" to have one effect or another on the PvE metagame (giving characters of less-desired professions the means to overcome class discrimination, lowering the bar for entry to elite areas for less experienced players, and so on). What role, if any, was the Ursan Blessing (and other Blessing skills) intended to play, or was it simply intended as a bit of fun?

This one's a bit long, sorry:
After the end of the GWFC, it seemed like GW was going places. You were getting mad coverage at Leipzig, and War Machine winning probably attracted a huge amount of interest in GW, even to those who would not necessarily PvP. GW could seriously have been a competitive game with the best of them.
However, fast forward to now. Big competitions like this have been discontinued, in favour of monthly AT's which draw bugger all publicity and have no prizes worth competing for. What in your opinion went wrong and how do you envisage GW2 as a competitive game?

My quesion is:
Why did you decide to go against your long stated vision of skill>time, and create an unprecedented amount of grind, to the degree various game sites refer to GW as Grind wars.

Hello Arena Net,
I'm just wondering why you diverted the original game plans from Factions onwards through adding grind into the game, then onto the release of Nightfall, add more grind and some of which that had benefits along with the addition of PvE skills a bit after release obtainable in both Factions and Nightfall, aswell as the huge power creep that probably could've been sorted and modified before the actual implimentation of the game?
Moving on to GW:EN, why did you impliment even more grind-wise titles with benefits, and bring forward the skill known as Ursan Blessing to be usable outside of the little quests aswell?
Also, what was your motivation behind this altogether with adding new mechanics and professions in the game aswell?
PS: This is sort of an addition to Squishy's question.
Thanks to Dark Necrid for passing this along and Earth for allowing this thread to be created.

I'd like to ask you about the marketing strategy for Guild Wars. I see Guild Wars left out of top games lists in various gaming magazines and shows like on E3, despite being so much better than most of the games listed. Do you feel this is because of the unlimited free play aspect of Guild Wars? Are other game makers influencing critics against your form of pricing? Or has Anet intentionally tried to avoid self promotion for some reason?

I would like to know if 1)Guild Wars will continue to function in the foreseeable future, and 2)can you see any new content being added to GW in the future, by way of additional quests given by existing NPC's, or new mission packs?
This may sound silly, or whatever, but I have grown quite fond of most if not all of my characters, and don't want to see them lost forever in the rubble of a dead game.
Shane
Thanks to Earth and DarkNecrid

Nice that your taking the time to grather from elite site for another. Thanks for doing this DarkNecrid, saving me from needing to reg on a different site
I only have two questions.
1. Is there any plans to add new content to GWs. Be it armor, mission packs etc.
2. With HoM turning into account thing, will all grind based be able to become account wide? *SS/LB and the different GWEN titles*

Did you intentionally buff SF so Perma was easily maintainable. Then ignore it.
Did you forsee Ursan obliterating all forms of PvE, other than the class discrim.
Do you really think that titles with benefits/pure grind titles where a good idea.
Do you think that (including the dieing economy) repetitive farming is only real way to make a decent amount of money (sides get a VERY LUCKY drop)
Do you take any real initiative towards making some of the more common "noob" builds in PvP less powerful. (Such as the dual RoA Axe in TA, ShoveSpike, WS, ect)
Do you think that adding new classes with some very different and abuse able skills was a good idea for the PvE/PvP meta.
Do you forsee any major updates to GW1 before GW2, and I don't mean new tonics/small changes, I am talking SF/DoA.
Do you feel that you ban to easily (no I was not banned) or do not examine the circumstance before banning someone.
A lot of people think that your communication with the community is subpar, do you feel the same and do you plan to improve it.
Why has there been no response on the disater of the mAT.
All I can think of atm
